Review - The Kiss of Deception by Mary E Pearson

Prince, Princess and Assassin.

Runaways, Romance, and….Deception…

Okay, so at first glance, The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson,  completely got me with how beautiful the cover was!  I will admit, I did pick the book up at first because of the cover.  Then I read the synopsis.  Holy…cow.

This book literally has everything for every genre, every reader, every person who enjoys a good book, you will definitely like this.  It has adventure, romance, a HUGE twist that I did NOT see coming, and characters that will keep your attention, and your heart, for the entire book.

So, the story is centered on Princess Arabella Celestine Idris Jezelia, First Daughter of the House of Morrighan, or Lia…for short.  This book also has multiple character views, Rafe and Kaden, where we actually get to see what each character is thinking and how the story will play out within their eyes.

We begin the story with the knowledge that Lia is being entered into an arranged marriage with the Prince from another Kingdom.  She’s never met this Prince, never seen his face, and doesn’t have much of a clue as to what she’s going into.  All she knows is that she has to do this for her Kingdom and that’s just the way it has to be.  Lia, being as strong minded and strong willed as she is, decides that a loveless marriage is not something she’s willing to go into so…she escapes.

From here, the story takes multiple turns.  We find Lia and one of the servants from her castle, in a completely different town working at a local tavern of sorts and apparently absolutely loving it.  Lia feels free from the worries and the struggles of the Kingdom and feels as though she can decide her own destiny from here.  What she didn’t expect is Kaden and Rafe as they enter the new life she’s created for herself.

Romance, mayhem, and treachery begin to take hold upon her life and I found myself falling in love and falling into the trap that was set for her throughout the entire novel.  There were parts where I had to just stop and think about what I’d just read.  When I say Mary E Pearson really toyed with my emotions and what I believed to be true…it’s not a lie.  She twisted and turned a familiar plotline into something that held my attention far more than I could have ever expected.

And the feels….there are SO MANY of them!!

Needless to say, if you haven’t picked this book up yet, you definitely should.  You won’t be disappointed and I’m curious to see what others think of the major plot twist that happens in the most UNEXPECTED place.  If you’ve read this book, please leave your comments below!

I’m definitely going to pick up The Heart of Betrayal, the second book in The Remnant Chronicles Series because I just have to know what happens next.

Thanks guys for taking the time to read my review and, as always, “Spread the joy of reading!  Lives can change with the turn of a page!”

See ya! :)
