Review - Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

As the story begins, we are greeted with most of Anna’s backstory.  She’s already in Paris, her parents are getting her settled in and she’s furious because she’s had to leave everything she knows.  Friends, family, everything familiar is back at home…and she’s in Paris.  Add to that, the fact that she’s never really spent a lengthy amount of time away from home, so,  as her mom departs and she realizes just how paper thin her walls are, the homesickness gets to be too much and she loses it.

Enter Meredith and a whole gang of all new friends there to make sure Anna can survive her term at this new school and in this new life.

Of course, with this new group of friends is a certain young man by the name of Etienne St. Clair, just St Clair to most of his friends.  Instantly, after a rather embarrassing first encounter, St. Clair and Anna end up becoming closer than either care to admit.   St Clair has a girlfriend at another school AND before Anna left her hometown, she’d been on the verge of something “wonderful” with the boy of her dreams.

As time slips away and Anna gets sucked more into the life she’s now living, will she forget all about her old friends, her life at home, and this other boy?  Will she find that Paris IS in fact the most romantic place to fall in love?  What happens when news from home, both St Clair’s and Anna’s, threatens to break them completely?  How will they survive heartbreak and new love in France?

Okay, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel.  It’s the first of a trilogy and I cannot wait to finishing reading the next two books.  If you are looking for a very light and fast paced novel, this one is definitely going to be up to speed for you.  Full of romance, witty comebacks, and quite a bit of drama, this book ultimately has it all.  And the dialogue between Anna and…Etienne…is not one to be missed!  All in all, I rated this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars on GoodReads.

Happy Reading!
