Review - The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E Smith

If you’ve ever questioned fate, if you’ve ever wondered “what if I’d done something different”, if you’ve ever wondered if the guy you run into every day getting on the bus to go to work “might be the one”, then this book is definitely for you.

Hey guys!  Welcome to another review!  This time we’re going to be talking about The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith.

Now let me just start out by saying that I had never read any books by this author beforehand.  This was a book I picked up just because the premise caught me and intrigued me.  What if those four minutes you took getting ready instead of running out and catching the bus, made a difference?  What if instead of eating lunch at one particular restaurant, you went to the other instead?  This book brings up a lot of the “what if” questions about fate, life and love and pretty valid questions at that.

You begin the book with our main character Hadley Sullivan questioning herself on a lot of what if’s and about fate in general.  If she hadn’t done this, then this might have happened.  If she hadn’t done that, then something else might have occurred.  Instead, she finds herself in an airport, too late to board her flight to England and therefore she must wait to catch a later flight.  This wouldn’t be such a problem except, Hadley is on her way to England to be in her father’s wedding to a woman she’s never met and holds some bitter resentment towards.  Now because she’s missed her plane, she may possibly be late for the wedding on the very next day.  Hence her initial problem.

You get to find out a lot of history regarding her family life and her father as she waits patiently for her next flight.  You also get to meet her inflight partner, Oliver, who is on his way to a “wedding” himself in London.  Now normally, Hadley is rather claustrophobic, and you find this out very early on.  But for some reason, being around Oliver and chit-chatting with him makes a complete difference.  Actually, it makes her wait and her flight quite bearable.

They end up learning a lot about each other on that particular flight and then things tend to progress in just a matter of mere hours.  Feelings are definitely key within this time frame and things tend to come to a boiling point while waiting in line to leave the airport.  Sadly, Hadley ends up losing Oliver and ends up going to the wedding with mere minutes to spare, feeling very mixed up inside with everything going on in her life.

I won’t give you all the details but I will tell you this, the emotional pull within this book really spoke to me.  I connected with Hadley’s character deeply and the emotional rollercoaster and relationship with her father tugged at my heartstrings.  The ending, while predictable, felt right for this particular story and I couldn’t help but fall in love with it. What is the probability of love at first sight?  We definitely find out in this one of a kind read that will take you on both an emotional and heartfelt ride through airports and through the streets of London.  I ended up giving this book a 5 out of 5 stars on GoodReads and will definitely be picking up more books by this author.

Thanks guys for taking time out to read my review and I’ll see you next time with another one!
