So, this story follows our two main characters Lea and
Gabe. Both are in college and see each
other for the first time as they get ready to enter a new semester. The laws of attraction being what they are,
they seem to be instantly smitten with one another, but there’s one problem
here. Or…many problems depending on how
you look at it. You see Gabe has quite a
tragic history and as a result is a very shy and quiet person. It’s hard for him to open up to anyone and
seems to be a little stand-offish when presented with new people and
situations.
Lea on the other hand is shy herself but she’s a bit more
outspoken than Gabe. Where he tends to
stay to himself and his very, VERY close circle of friends, Lea goes out with
her friends and likes to have a good time.
Lea doesn’t really shy away from new situations or new people…well…unless
she’s crushing on them.
It doesn’t take long and certain aspects of their lives tend
to start clashing together. Wherever she
is, he seems to appear. Wherever he is,
she is not far behind. They circulate
the coffee shop on campus, they share a class together and the same dorm, and
even tend to order the exact same meals from the local Chinese restaurant. All in all it looks like fate is trying to
step in and put these two together.
But fate isn’t the only one trying to put them
together. What’s so quirky and kind of
nice about this book is the fact that, it’s not told at all through the
viewpoints of either of the main characters.
Instead it’s told in a round-about way of fourteen different viewpoints. You have the Barista at the coffee shop who
watches as Gabe and Lea circle each other day in and day out. There’s also the professor of their creative
writing class who seems to make it her life goal to get these two together. We even finally get the viewpoint of…believe
it or not…a squirrel. Yes…a
squirrel.
Surprisingly though, each and every view point had me
completely interested with the story. I
loved the fact that we were watching the lives of this boy and girl through so
many different eyes. Not only do you get
the story of our main characters, but you get a little background on the
characters who are telling the story.
The writing is very well done within this book and is rather fast paced
and enjoyable. You won’t even know you
are nearing the end of the story until you actually close the book.
Will Gabe and Lea finally get together? Will he reveal his sad past? Will everyone stop trying to push them
together? These are all questions that
have to be answered by the last page!
All in all I gave this book a 4.25 out of 5 stars on
GoodReads and very highly recommend you go out and pick it up! If you are looking for a fun little love
story, this one’s for you!
