Looking for a psychological thriller? Look no further!
Okay so I had read some really great reviews about this
book way before I picked it up. I was
expecting a certain creep factor and a little mystery. What I was not expecting was to be fully
emerged in not just a mystery but what could possibly be the plot of a whole
Criminal Minds episode!
This book had everything!
Mystery, psychological issues, and most definitely the creep
factor. You know the one…where as you
are reading you have to constantly look over your shoulder because you just
know someone may be watching you?
Yeah…that feeling.
So we start off with a seemingly innocent Girl Scout camping
trip. Of course during the early morning
hours, our main character Angie, feels the call of nature and runs out into the
woods to find her own private tree. She
happens to get that particular creeped out feeling I was just talking about and
then wham bam, she never makes it back to her camp.
Flash forward three years and Angie finds herself walking
down a long road that is very familiar to her.
She’s shaking and not sure how she got from her camp out with the Girl
Scouts to the road that is closest to her home.
Also…whose clothes are these she’s wearing and why does she feel so
completely different?
She has even more questions when she gets home. Mainly why her mother and father are freaking
out at the sight of her and why, when she looks in the mirror, she sees a girl
that’s much older than her.
Pretty Girl 13 is a story about Angie and how she was
kidnapped and ultimately abused for three years of her life. You get glimpses of what happened to her
during those three years, interspersed with the Angie of here and now. The one that’s trying to figure out what
happened and how three years of her life has slipped by without her remembering
a single bit of it.
You also get to see her work through her memories, her fears
and anxiety, and the twisted life she held even before she was kidnapped. Will Angie work out what really happened to
her? Will we ever know what became of
her kidnapper?
I have to tell you, this book was VERY good. It gave me the chills and was well written to
the point that I found myself believing everything the author said and falling
into the traps of Angie’s story. I ended
up reading this book in practically one sitting. I could NOT put it down. I just had to know what happened to Angie and
if she would ever figure out why she couldn’t remember the things done to
her. And why is that? It was such a plot twist that I definitely
wasn’t expecting it!
All in all I gave this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars on
GoodReads and if you’re looking for a great psychological thriller…this one is
definitely for you!
