Okay let’s just get right down to it. Some books will make you laugh, some will
make you cry and some just make you so mad you want to pitch it just as far as
you can get it away from you. I very
rarely find a book that makes me feel both anger and sadness at the very
end. But yes my friends, I found one in
this book. I’m sure you all know what I’m
talking about and it is…Allegiant by
Veronica Roth. The third and final
installment in the Divergent Trilogy.
There are SO many things I could begin this review
with. So many words and angry letters, I
could send in regards to the ending. If
you’ve read through the entire series, you know exactly where I’m coming
from. I won’t get into any spoilers and
I definitely don’t want to dissuade people from reading this final book. In truth, it really does tie everything
together, finish things off, and really sets the tone for the ending of the
series. But why? WHY Veronica Roth?!
First and foremost, let me start by saying that I went into
this book, just knowing something bad was going to happen. I didn’t know what and I didn’t know when,
but I knew SOMETHING big was getting ready to go down. However, I had NO idea what was going to
happen, would happen. I had heard
rumors, but they weren’t specific.
So during this installment of the series, you have Tris and
Four having to deal with what went down at the end of Insurgent. You have things
being revealed; things being brought to light that were totally against what
everyone thought was going to happen.
And then they step outside the fences, and suddenly it gets VERY real.
Now you are being brought into an entirely different world. There are no factions, there are no
factionless, and there is just us.
Literally. Reading this novel,
felt a little like the story had switched back to modern times; like you were
reading about people and things that could literally be going on today. A little far-fetched? Maybe.
But who’s to say?
Now suddenly, Tris’ whole world as she knows it, is turned
completely upside down. Add to the fact
that she still doesn’t know who to trust, who the good guys and bad guys are,
and who really is working for the better of all mankind. Also, the whole Tris and Four trusting
thing? Yeah…it gets pretty intense.
Let me also say that this series, has been phenomenal, but I’m
not afraid to admit that I wish I’d never read this particular book. The writing style was exceedingly perfect;
yet again and of course we all know and love the characters so, so much! I also loved the whole play on dual
perspectives throughout the book. It’s
something we haven’t seen before and I found it really refreshing and fun to
see both perspectives of Tris and Four.
To get into the head of a character that we usually don’t get to see
what he may be thinking or feeling was a very nice touch.
I had to take a breather after reading this book. There were so many emotions going on
guys. If you haven’t read this book, you’ll
understand when you do. I couldn’t leave
the series unfinished but once I got to that certain part…I really had serious
doubts that I could finish it. I did
though and with the series finished, I can put it behind me and mourn it as I
see fit. All in all I gave this book a 3.75
out of 5 stars on GoodReads.
If you have read this book, or if you’re just starting the Divergent trilogy, let me know what you
think in the comments below.
Thanks again guys for taking the time to read my review and,
as always, “Spread the joy of reading!
Lives can change with the turn of a page!”
See ya! J
