If you are into contemporary, look no further for your next
great read! Let me introduce you to:
The Secret of Ella and
Micha by Jessica Sorenson
Holy cow…was I totally blindsided by this book or what? I picked this up on a whim because I thought
the synopsis sounded pretty darn awesome and a good pick for a quick summer
read.
From page one to the very end, this book kept me on pins and
needles the whole time regarding the characters, their relationships, their
background…everything.
So in this book, you are introduced to the two main
characters right off the bat, Ella and Micha.
You are taken through the entire story flip flopping back and forth
between their two points of view. At
first, I thought this style would be a little distracting, boy was I
wrong! Being able to see the ideas and
emotions that played through Ella and the actions that spurred Micha along,
really helped the story to flow in a way that the reader can relate and
understand the characters.
As you see in the very beginning pages, Ella and Micha are
best friends and have been for some time.
They are just exiting their final year of high school and…surprisingly
enough…emotions have been flaring on each side for some time. In a burst of shocking clarity, feelings come
to light one specific night and…after such feelings…Ella immediately runs in
the opposite direction.
You are taken from this scene into Ella’s freshman year of college. You find that she’s finished up her first
year and she is now tasked with going home and facing what she left behind 8
months ago. You also find out, that even
though Ella thinks Micha should have forgotten her by now…that’s not the
case. Micha is totally one of those guys
that’s going to go the extra mile and make sure his feelings are known. He also wants to know what HER feelings
are…and thus intends to find her and find out.
Turns out, he’s been searching for her all over the country ever since
she left.
You see, Ella didn’t leave any traces of where she ran away
to. She wasn’t the best grade student in
high school and she was a little on the wild side so…suffice it to say…no one
would have believed she’d take off and enter college. Even her family, which you will find doesn’t
have the happiest history, really have no clue to her whereabouts.
Armed with her new bestie/roommate from college, Ella enters
into the past that she so desperately wanted to leave behind and the boy that
enflames her with just a single look.
This book really was incredible. While not exactly a YA novel, I believe
anyone age 17 and up could read it. This
book does have rather colorful language, scenes of rather lust filled moments,
and adult themed tragedies that will have your heart hurting for our main
characters.
This book is part of a 4 book series and I readily await
reading the next part The Forever of Ella
and Micha.
If you haven’t already picked this book up, I highly suggest
you do so. You will lose yourself in a
heartbreaking push and pull of romance that will leave you wanting more. If you have read this, please let me know
what you thought in the comments below!
Thanks guys for taking the time out to read my review and,
