Review - White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L Armentrout

What do you get when you mix a seventeen year old half demon, half gargoyle girl with a rather hot male demon?

You get Jennifer L Armentrout’s Dark Elements series of course!

Okay, I definitely didn’t go into this book blind.  I had heard quite a bit about it through BookTube and GoodReads and everything I’d heard was relatively good.  And then of course it’s Jennifer L Armentrout so…how could it not BE good?

I’ll admit the premise kind of took me a little while to get used to.  When I think gargoyle I think of the animated television show that I used to watch when I was a kid.  Let me tell you from the start, these are SO not those gargoyles.

In this book, gargoyles are protectors of humanity…or at least Wardens are.  They hunt down demons and make sure that everything stays in control and safe for the world.  Being that our main protagonist has a little of both in her, kind of makes a raw point for the story itself.

Layla, is a seventeen year old who’s working her way through high school and also the insanity of her half gargoyle-half demon life.  She feels the, at times, uncontrollable pull to take someone’s soul from her demon side, and on the other hand, she wants to help protect with her gargoyle side.  But not only that, Layla has a rather special power.  All it takes is for Layla to deliver a kiss to anyone with a soul, and boom, they become instant soulless wonder.

You can imagine how, being in high school that could present a bit of a problem.  Also she has a major crush she’s dealing with on one of the Wardens, Zayne, who treats her a lot like a sister.  And then let’s also add Roth, a rather hot demon whose been watching Layla from afar for some time now, with serious intentions.

If you were a fan of the Lux series by Jennifer L Armentrout, you will definitely love this series.  I see a lot of Daemon in Roth and really, who didn’t like Daemon?  Also, the writing style is much the same and for that I am forever grateful!  Jennifer’s writing style is such a form that it enables the reader to get lost in her stories.  Once you finish the last line, you feel the urge to pick up the next in the series and continue on because you just HAVE to know what happens.  Such is the same with the Dark Elements series.

Honestly I’ve really fallen in love with the characters of this book.  I want to know what happens to each character and I DEFINITELY want to know what happens after such a cliffhanger of an ending.  Holy cow was I NOT expecting that!  It kind of tugged at my heartstrings a bit!

All in all, I gave this book a 5 out of 5 stars on GoodReads and I definitely recommend going to pick up the entire series.  Don’t just pick up the first book, because you’ll regret it when you go to marathon the series and you have to wait for the chance to pick up the next book!

Thanks again for taking time to read my review and, as always, “Spread the joy of reading!  Lives can change with the turn of a page!”
